I have owned 15 boats in my life. Each one like a former lover. I was first taken in by her beautiful curves, enjoyed a honeymoon, and then she got brassy. When the shine wore off she left me with good memories and lots of bills! Still, each one of them was a chapter in my log I wouldn't trade for the world. Thank you, ladies!
I recently bought my 15th boat, but it's not the one I've dreamed about while working for 54 years. I want a cruiser I can enjoy up and down the east coast; including trips to the Bahamas, and a trip to Cuba, and maybe a trip to Cancun. But I think those goals will have to wait for boat #16 which will be a diesel engine and use less fuel.
I just drove the boat from New York Harbor to my house in Florida. It took me 22 days to make the trip alone. It would have been about half that if I had a Mate. I'll try and find a place to put pictures of my journey here.
I currently am a reverse snowbird. I normally live in my house in Florida during the colder months, and I lived on my houseboat or yacht at the New Jersey shore during spring and summer. In 2020, because of the China virus, I spent only one month in New Jersey in my RV to visit my grandchildren.
BUT...I recently retired and made some changes to adapt to retirement life (and income).
I recently sold my Class A RV bus and decided it is easier on my health to rent houses or hotels for my travels.
There are pictures of some of my boats on the next page. Click on the pictures to read a caption for most of them. AND...click on the words SHOW MORE at the end of the picture galleries to see more pictures!
I was in the United Methodist ministry for 18 years. I decided young that most pastors are too much talk and not enough action. So, I founded a foster child/adoption agency where I was President for 37 years until I retired in 2018.
Whether on 2 wheels, four wheels, or six wheels....and regardless if the boat had one engine or twin V-8 engines or three diesels...and whether or not the plane had 2 engines, 3, or 4....my life has been an adventure of motion on land, sea, and air.
IF YOUR LIFE IS NOT AN ADVENTURE...YOU'RE NOT LIVING!
Some families are conceived in the bedroom; some are conceived in the eyes of God. Sometimes the gods whisper their instructions to us in a still small voice, but in our case, they thrust us into each other's lives with the crashing sounds of thunder! The events that brought us together spanned travel from the opposite side of the earth, to a wedding near Orlando, Florida. We shared the joys of the birth of two beautiful children, and the pangs of pain when we lost their father to cancer. Nothing binds a family together more than enduring the fire and ice of life together.
My favorite activities by far are anything I can do with my grandchildren. Children take smaller steps, and I take slower ones; so we're a good match. They enjoy my pool, and I enjoy watching them be happy in it. I like my back yard and usually have a boat parked at the dock. I also enjoy making things from wood and doing projects around the house that involve light construction. I built two of my houses with my own two hands and the help of my friends. I'll add pictures of them later. And I have enjoyed traveling to 15 countries and hope to hit a few more soon, if the virus and my health allow.
